In the fall of 2006, my daughter came to me asking for help with a drug problem. A few years earlier, she was involved in a tragic automobile accident that killed her friend and left her critically injured. Due to her injuries, she became addicted to painkillers, which eventually lead her to daily heroin use.

Being a recovering alcoholic myself, I had been actively involved in a 12-Step program for several years, and my daughter started attending 12-Step meetings with me but unfortunately was unable to stay clean and sober. However, several of her new “recovery” friends convinced her to check into a residential treatment facility.

After investigating every residential treatment center in Utah, we selected one that was conveniently located just 30 minutes from our home. After 3½ months and tens of thousands of dollars, she finally “graduated” from their program, and has remained clean and sober ever since.

It was because of this question, and others, that the philosophy of Steps Recovery Center was born and continued to develop over the next two years. That philosophy was simply, “substance abuse treatment that a family can afford.” It is that simple philosophy and my passion for recovery that has become the driving force behind Steps Recovery Center finally becoming a reality.
